Research With Princeton is powered by Pure, an enterprise research management solution that can aggregate an organization's research information. Pure can connect and group multiple forms of data, including publications information found in Elsevier’s Scopus database. Pure is a product built and maintained by Elsevier, a global information analytics company. The State of NJ selected Pure as the platform for the “Research With” project.

Research With Princeton allows users to search in several ways.
Search by Person
First, one can search for experts under the “Profiles” tab. Profile outputs provide basic information about an expert, such as the universities and institutions they are affiliated with, as well as the disciplines and sub-disciplines within their expertise. The "fingerprint" of disciplines and sub-disciplines is based on mining the text of a scholar's scientific documents to create an index of weighted terms. The “donut” icons next to each fingerprint reveal the weighted rank of each subject across the expert’s publications. You can also scroll down to the “network” section of the page to see how an expert is connected to other researchers. (You can also see this information under the “Network” tab on each profile.) The visual network display reveals the extent to which research collaboration has occurred across disciplines and regions of the world. At the bottom of the page, a list of the selected expert’s publications (referred to as “Research Outputs”) appears, which in turn (via click) leads to individual abstracts.
Search by University
A second way to search the database is by “Research Units,” which refers to Princeton’s departments, institutes, and centers. By clicking on a specific research unit, one is able to use the top header row tabs to see an overview of the expert profiles, research output (publications), and fingerprint associated with that research unit.
Search by Publications
A third way to search the database is by “Research Output.” This allows users to search for a range of publications by keywords, phrases, concepts, free text, and various filters. Users will be able to further evaluate their search results by reviewing the weights under each fingerprint associated with a particular Research Output.

To be included automatically in your profile, a publication must be visible in Scopus. From the time a publication becomes visible in Scopus, it may take up to 2-4 weeks before the publication shows up in a profile. Occasionally a journal is not covered by Scopus. Please email us at [email protected] for assistance.

The tags are determined by Elsevier’s Fingerprint Engine. Elsevier provides the Pure platform to power this project. A fingerprint is based on mining the text of a scholar's scientific documents to create an index of weighted terms.
