More than 400 Princeton faculty and staff, industry representatives, venture capitalists and more mingled on campus Oct. 10 for Celebrate Princeton Innovation, the University’s annual salute to its researchers who are patenting discoveries, creating start-up companies and exploring other ventures.
Princeton is among the Top 100 U.S. universities granted U.S. utility patents in rankings released this week by the National Academy of Inventors (NAI).
Princeton was listed at No. 50 on the list, which NAI said was based on data obtained from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on patents granted in 2023.

More than 100 professors, postdoctoral researchers and students from Princeton and five historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) met on campus Feb. 2-3 to share results from their research collaborations and to spark ideas for further discovery and innovation.
As research collaborations between Princeton and industry continue to grow, the volume and complexity of the associated agreements has increased. To handle these matters, a specialized team has been set up in the Office of Research and Project Administration (ORPA), in partnership with the Office of Corporate Engagement and Foundation Relations (CEFR). “These streamlined administrative procedures will serve Princeton’s expanding corporate partnerships well,” says Dean for Research Peter Schiffer.
